Michael is a Co-founding Partner at Underscore VC, a Boston-based firm investing at Seed in bold B2B software founders. Over the past four decades, Michael has spent equal time as an entrepreneur and now venture investor building businesses that have pushed himself and industries forward, from Enterprise Big Data & Analytics (AlphaBlox - acquired by IBM) to Security & Consumer products (Symantec UK - NASDAQ:SYMC). The startups that he has built, invested in, and supported, have created thousands of jobs, and generated billions of dollars of value. Inspired by his early roots in open source, in 2015 Michael co-founded Underscore VC to help founders create enduring companies through the power of community. Never satisfied with the status quo, Michael has focused his and the firm’s efforts on breakthrough technologies, disruptive business models, and emerging domains.

Above all, Michael has a passion for helping the next generation of entrepreneurs succeed by not only backing them with capital but by bringing the resources and commitment of an aligned community around them to propel their success. To help achieve this, he has created the Startup Secrets series, now viewed and valued by millions around the world. Today, Startup Secrets content is taught at Harvard University where Michael has been an educator for over a decade and earned an Executive Fellowship. Michael’s “go big or go home” attitude extends to his personal life too. He’s a self-proclaimed “amateur” photographer who’s traveled the world taking award-worthy photos, and is an avid sports person, giving his all to everything from skiing to kiteboarding.
